Private equity firm Vendis Capital has made a strategic investment in Skins Cosmetics, an omnichannel beauty retailer and distributor based in the Netherlands. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
Founded in 2000, Skins Cosmetics has built a reputation for curating premium niche brands under its own retail brand. With a portfolio of approximately 150 luxury niche brands, the company has experienced significant success over the years. Philip Hillege, the creative director and co-founder of Skins Cosmetics, expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments, attributing their achievements to the growth of existing stores and successful new store openings. He highlighted the rapid growth of the ultra-high-end market segment, which he believes is underserved in the current international retail landscape. Hillege expressed confidence in Vendis Capital’s ability to contribute to Skins Cosmetics’ development, leveraging their expertise in the luxury consumer brand industry and their track record of successful retail concepts. The investment from Vendis Capital also marks the departure of five early investors who supported Skins Cosmetics in its previous phase.
Presently, Skins Cosmetics operates 20 stores, including franchised locations, in the Netherlands, Belgium, and South Africa. The company also has its own e-commerce platform, expanding its reach to a wider customer base. Over the past three years, Skins Cosmetics has achieved an impressive average sales growth of over 30 percent. In the previous year alone, the company generated more than 40 million euros in revenue. With a dedicated team of approximately 200 employees, Skins Cosmetics is well-positioned for further expansion and success.
Philip Hillege will continue in his role as creative director, and Claudia Pouw-Dullaart will remain as the chief executive officer of Skins Cosmetics. Vendis Capital, established in 2009, specializes in investments within the consumer goods sector across Europe. The firm focuses on small to medium-sized companies in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Scandinavia.
Vincent Braams, a partner at Vendis Capital, expressed confidence in the investment, emphasizing that Skins Cosmetics aligns perfectly with Vendis’ investment criteria. Braams highlighted Skins Cosmetics’ status as a successful omnichannel retail brand, offering a premium selection of niche luxury products through a robust go-to-market platform. Vendis Capital believes that Skins Cosmetics has immense growth potential, and they are committed to working together to realize that potential.
