Colorkey, the Chinese Lip Makeup Brand, Leading the Innovation of Lip Makeup Aesthetics

Recently, Colorkey has introduced the core concept of “Future Sensory Lip Makeup” and collaborated with two authoritative institutions to upgrade their lip products with sensory lip makeup adjustment technology and a sensory lip makeup color system. This aims to create a brand-new Future Sensory Lip Makeup, making lip makeup products more makeup-like, tactile, and gentle.

It is understood that Colorkey’s Lip Makeup Sensory Adjustment Technology mainly includes three aspects of formula innovation. Firstly, the “AiryColorTech Native Color Display Film” has been innovated. By combining film-forming agents and a new type of makeup biomaterial, silk protein, a more skin-friendly, breathable, and comfortable mesh film is formed. It adheres to the lips, ensuring even distribution of lip color and excellent long-lasting effects, achieving a delicate balance between light and color. Secondly, utilizing the unique structure of silk protein, the “β-Folded Silk Protein Encapsulation Technology” has been invented, along with the exclusive neuroamide encapsulation body, to lock in moisture, precisely improve lip texture, enhance lip smoothness, and create a silkier tactile sensation. Thirdly, the active extract of rain-born red algae has been added to the product. This ingredient possesses strong antioxidant abilities, helping to soothe the skin, refine the barrier, stabilize the condition of lip skin, and create an advanced sense of gentleness.

Currently, Colorkey has applied the above sensory adjustment technology to its third-generation products, including Airy Velvet Lip Lacquer, Little Black Mirror Lip Lacquer, and the new generation of Water Mist Lip Gloss. With this, the Colorkey lip product family has undergone a complete upgrade.

NANCY, Senior Director of R&D at the Colorkey R&D Center, explains, “Compared to our previous generation of lip lacquers, the newly upgraded lip lacquers have better color payoff. In addition, we used the Antera 3D skin analyzer to observe lip smoothness and found that the new lip lacquers visually blur lip lines, creating an advanced makeup effect.”

Of note, in addition to upgrading the product formulas, Colorkey has also addressed the pain point of “difficult color selection” for consumers. Through conversations with over 50,000 real users, Colorkey discovered that the biggest pain points in choosing lip makeup colors are “inability to select/appropriate color leading to low color satisfaction” and “differences in color and color payoff due to factors such as different textures and lip colors.”

To address these pain points, Colorkey collaborated with the Color Research Institute of Tsinghua University’s Arts and Science Center to create the Colorkey Sensory Lip Color Aesthetic Guide. This guide utilizes cutting-edge color theory and lip color balance principles, proposing the concept of “color + texture + style” to coordinate color harmony. It is applied to all Colorkey lip makeup products.

Furthermore, based on the coordination between six skin tones and two lip colors, the two parties have established a comprehensive lip color theory. This theory takes into account the unique skin tone differences and lip color preferences of Asian women, providing scientific and meticulous guidance for selecting lip gloss colors. Additionally, Colorkey has customized 53 selected lip gloss colors for Asian women with different skin tones and lip colors, fully covering and meeting consumers’ personalized needs. To further refine personalized lip makeup services, Colorkey’s “Sensory Lip Color Aesthetic Guide” has also defined four styles: Sweet, Elegant, Passionate, and Wise, creating a more advanced sensory lip makeup experience.

Thus, through collaboration with the Color Research Institute of Tsinghua University’s Arts and Science Center, Colorkey’s “Sensory Lip Color Aesthetic Guide” provides scientific and systematic methodology support for Asian women’s lip color aesthetics. This not only promotes the development of lip aesthetics but also further solidifies Colorkey’s position as a trendsetter in the color aesthetics industry.

To date, Colorkey has sold over 150 million units of lip gloss, and on average, one out of every two Chinese girls has used Colorkey’s lip gloss products, making it a representative brand in the lip gloss category in China.

Not only has Colorkey achieved explosive sales, but it has also received recognition from various industries. It has won multiple awards, including the “Word-of-Mouth Domestic Product Award” from Fashion COSMO, the “Lip Gloss of the Year” award from Fashion Bazaar’s International Beauty Awards, and the Doin’s Top 100 Best Beauty Products.
