On February 3, data released by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government showed that the provisional estimate of the total value of retail sales in Hong Kong amounted to HK$35.038 billion in December 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 6.6%. For the period from January to December 2025, the provisional estimate of the total value of retail sales reached HK$380.464 billion, up 1.0% year on year.
Among these figures, retail sales value in the drugs and cosmetics category totaled HK$2.766 billion in December 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 0.6%, while sales volume rose by 0.3% over the same period. For January–December 2025, retail sales value in the drugs and cosmetics category amounted to HK$34.38 billion, up 4.2% year on year, with sales volume increasing by 2.7%.
Within overall retail sales, the provisional estimate of the value of online retail sales in December stood at HK$3.070 billion, up 30.9% from the same month in 2024, accounting for 8.8% of the total retail sales value for the month.
In addition, compared with the third quarter of 2025, the provisional estimate of the seasonally adjusted total value of retail sales rose by 1.2% in the fourth quarter, while the seasonally adjusted total volume of retail sales declined by 0.4%.
A spokesperson for the Hong Kong SAR Government stated that since 2025, the total value of retail sales in Hong Kong has shown a steady recovery, recording modest growth for the year as a whole. Looking ahead to 2026, with improving consumer sentiment and a robust increase in visitor arrivals, the retail sector is expected to continue receiving solid support for further development.
