Bath & Body Works President of Retail Steps Down, Position Eliminated

Bath & Body Works is undergoing a significant leadership transition as Julie Rosen, the company’s president of retail, steps down from her role, with her position being eliminated. This decision comes as part of a broader restructuring strategy aimed at enhancing the organization’s operational efficiency. In a statement released yesterday, both Rosen and the company expressed that this move was mutually agreed upon, with Rosen remaining available in an advisory capacity to ensure a smooth transition during this pivotal time.

In the wake of Rosen’s departure, all functions that previously reported to her will now be overseen by Gina Boswell, the chief executive officer of Bath & Body Works. Boswell noted that the decision to flatten the organizational structure is intended to foster accelerated decision-making, allowing the company to better position itself for long-term, sustainable growth. “Having made significant progress in fortifying our operating foundation and building our platform for growth, we believe that now is the right time for this change,” she stated. “We are well-positioned heading into the holiday season and remain relentlessly focused on growth, committed to delivering the compelling products, unique merchandising, and brand storytelling for which Bath & Body Works is renowned.”

However, the company is navigating a challenging economic landscape, having missed Wall Street’s sales forecasts in the second quarter. As a result, Bath & Body Works has lowered its full-year outlook, now anticipating a decline in net sales between 2% and 4%, a shift from the previous forecast which projected a decline of just 2.5% to flat sales. The company reported net sales of $1,526 million for the quarter ended August 3, 2024, a decrease of 2.1% compared to net sales of $1,559 million for the quarter ended July 29, 2023.

As Bath & Body Works prepares for the holiday season, the leadership change reflects a proactive approach to address current market challenges while striving to maintain its strong brand identity and customer loyalty in a competitive retail environment.
