Beiersdorf AG, a renowned skincare company, has recently announced its plans to acquire the real estate assets of Clinique La Prairie, an esteemed medical and health clinic based in Montreux, Switzerland. This acquisition marks a significant reunion between Beiersdorf’s prestige skincare brand, La Prairie, and its birthplace.
Although the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the transaction is expected to be finalized later this year. Beiersdorf will take ownership of the expansive premises, spanning over 247,570 square feet and comprising seven buildings, including the iconic La Résidence villa. However, Clinique La Prairie Group will continue to operate the on-site medical and health clinic.
Clinique La Prairie, established in 1931 by Paul Niehans, holds a pivotal role in the research and development of cellular therapy for rejuvenating cosmetic products. This pioneering work became the foundation of La Prairie’s product formulations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Beiersdorf expressed their enthusiasm for entering a new era of partnership with Clinique La Prairie Group, a global leader in longevity. Patrick Rasquinet, a member of Beiersdorf’s executive board, stated that the acquisition would strengthen the iconic La Prairie brand by bringing it back to its historic birthplace. The shared values of luxury, longevity, and exclusive client experiences between Clinique La Prairie and La Prairie present exciting opportunities for closer collaboration.
Simone Gibertoni, the CEO of Clinique La Prairie Group, emphasized that the acquisition would reinforce the clinic’s international development plan. With a focus on preventative medicine, Clinique La Prairie has developed a unique “longevity ecosystem,” comprising health resorts and “longevity hubs.
Since the 1980s, La Prairie Group and Clinique La Prairie Group have operated independently, each with their distinct brands. However, this acquisition signifies a significant milestone in their journey, bringing them together once again under Beiersdorf’s ownership.
