Yesterday, Boots has appointed Simon Gregg as its new Chief Retail and Logistics Director, with the seasoned retail executive set to join the UK health and beauty giant on 20 January. Gregg will be leaving his current role as Chief E-Commerce and Retail Officer at Asda, a position he has held for the past eight years, overseeing both the physical retail and online operations for the supermarket chain.
With an extensive career that began in 1986 at Tesco, Gregg has held various roles including Online Director for Tesco.com, Tesco Direct, and its clothing brand F&F, before leaving the company in 2016. His experience in both physical retail and digital commerce positions him as a strong leader for Boots, especially as the company continues its transformation journey.
A Boots spokesperson expressed enthusiasm about Gregg’s appointment, highlighting his wealth of experience in executive leadership roles at Tesco and Asda. “Simon has a huge amount of retail experience,” the spokesperson stated, “leading big teams across expansive store estates, connecting physical and digital worlds to enhance the customer and colleague experience, and his passion for brilliant service will be invaluable as we enter the next stage of our ambitious transformation journey.”
Boot’s parent company, Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), reported strong fiscal Q1 2025 results, posting US$39.5 billion in sales, marking a 7.5% year-over-year increase. The International segment had first quarter sales of $6.4 billion, an increase of 10.2 percent from the year-ago quarter, including a favorable currency impact of 3.6 percent. Sales increased 6.5 percent on a constant currency basis, with the Germany wholesale business growing 11.3 percent and Boots UK sales growing 4.5 percent.
