Recently, according to Estee Lauder, Richard “Dick” D. Parsons, a distinguished member of The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) Board of Directors, passed away on December 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of invaluable contributions to both the company and its leadership. Having served on the Board for over two decades, Parsons was more than just a trusted advisor—he was a mentor, a friend, and a steady presence for three generations of the Lauder family and ELC’s leadership team.
William P. Lauder, Chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies, expressed deep sorrow over Parsons’ passing, stating, “On behalf of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Board of Directors, my family, and our colleagues around the world, we join in mourning the loss of Richard D. Parsons. Dick was a sage counselor and steady hand providing more than two decades of service to our company and communities. Though we will miss him immensely, our company is better as a result of his committed service and the values he perfectly embodied: his humanity, his integrity, and his abiding optimism. We are deeply saddened by his passing and forever grateful for his innumerable contributions.”
Parsons’ career was a testament to his broad expertise and wisdom. He joined the ELC Board in 1999, bringing with him the vast experience gained from a remarkable career in law, finance, and media. Parsons’ resume includes notable roles as the former chairman of Citigroup, Chairman and CEO of Time Warner, and as an economic advisor to President Barack Obama. His diverse background allowed him to offer unique perspectives on various matters, especially as a member of several important ELC committees, including the Compensation Committee and the Nominating and ESG Committee.
For over twenty years, Parsons provided invaluable counsel, helping to guide The Estée Lauder Companies through periods of growth and challenge. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of working with him, as well as the many lives he touched throughout his illustrious career.
