Henkel, a global leader in consumer and industrial products, has recently announced its agreement to acquire the renowned hair care brand Vidal Sassoon and its related hair care business in Greater China from Procter & Gamble. Vidal Sassoon, a well-established brand with a salon-inspired image, has a strong presence in the retail market. This acquisition will complement Henkel’s existing portfolio of consumer brands in China by filling a gap in the premium retail segment.
The Vidal Sassoon brand primarily focuses on the premium hair care segment, offering a range of shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and treatments. It holds a significant position in the Chinese market and achieved impressive sales of over 200 million euros in the fiscal year 2022/2023.
Carsten Knobel, CEO of Henkel, expressed the strategic importance of targeted acquisitions to drive the company’s growth agenda. This transaction represents a significant step for Henkel’s Consumer Brands business in China, allowing them to expand and strengthen their presence in one of their core categories in this attractive and growing market.
Last year, it was reported that P&G was considering options for its hair care brand VS Sassoon to operate in China. P&G valued the deal at around $1 billion.
