On December 4th, Papa Recipe announced the closure of its stores. According to the announcement, Papa Recipe stores will cease operations and sales by December 31, 2023. However, they will continue to provide product consultation and after-sales services for purchases in accordance with platform rules.
Public information indicates that Papa Recipe, known for its natural and non-irritating products, is a subsidiary of Papa Recipe company. The brand’s popular product, the Papa Recipe Honey Mask, has gained a large following since its launch. The brand’s operations in China are managed by Hangzhou Shenmei Brand Management Co., Ltd. (referred to as Shenmei Group). After the news of Papa Recipe’s closure spread, many consumers expressed surprise, saying, “It’s sudden, weren’t they popular?” “It was my favorite during college” and “Are they exiting the Chinese market?”
It is worth noting that the closure announcement released by Shenmei Group pertains to the cessation of operations for the Papa Recipe brand in China. Industry insiders have commented, “This announcement does not necessarily mean that Papa Recipe is exiting China. It could indicate a change in the local operator or a decision to reclaim operational rights and operate independently. After all, the brand has a high level of recognition in China.”
In response to this, CHAILEEDO contacted customer service at the Papa Recipe flagship store, and they stated, “The long-standing partnership between Papa Recipe and us is coming to a successful conclusion. It is currently unknown whether there will be any other related developments. At this stage, we are clearing our inventory.” At Papa Recipe flagship store on Amazon, it shows that the Papa Recipe Honey Mask has been purchased by over 500 people in the last month and is currently selling for $15.95.
Currently, Papa Recipe’s self-operated stores on JD.com, Tmall, and Douyin (TikTok) are operating as usual. Apart from the Douyin flagship store’s closure announcement on its homepage, there are no signs of store closures or clearance sales. Qingyan will continue to monitor the situation.
