Le Labo on-site personalized perfume service is the second pilot project for personalized cosmetic services implemented in Shanghai.
On August 23rd, Le Labo at Taikoo Li officially launched its on-site personalized perfume service, where consumers can choose their preferred fragrance and have the staff blend the perfume in a transparent sealed laboratory. After bottling, consumers can select and customize the label.
According to the Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration, Le Labo on-site personalized perfume service is the second pilot project for personalized cosmetic services in Shanghai. With the prior involvement and guidance from the local food and drug administration and the Pudong New Area Market Supervision Bureau, and after undergoing strict and careful licensing checks, Le Labo has recently obtained the “Cosmetic Production License,” marking another attempt at personalized cosmetic customization in Shanghai.
The Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration stated that China’s cosmetic regulation has strictly separated the manufacturing and sales locations for a long time. Factories are for production, and stores are for retail.
On July 21, 2022, the “Several Provisions on Innovative Development of the Cosmetic Industry in Pudong New Area, Shanghai” was passed, which clarified that personalized services can be provided on-site through packaging and distribution models according to consumer’s individualized needs, as long as relevant conditions are met. It also specified that market entities engaged in related business activities in Pudong New Area can enjoy a series of institutional innovations.
Le Labo, acquired by Estée Lauder Group in 2014, previously operated two stores in Hong Kong and opened its first mainland China store in Shanghai on June 1, 2023.
