Today, L’Oréal Group announced a minority investment in the Chinese clean skincare brand LAN. The investment was made through Meicifang Investment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Meicifang”), a subsidiary of L’Oréal China, with support from BOLD (Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development), L’Oréal Group’s strategic innovation venture capital fund.
Notably, this marks Meicifang’s first investment in a homegrown Chinese skincare brand.
According to public information, LAN was founded in 2019 and is positioned as a clean skincare brand. According to Sullivan’s Independent Research Report on China’s Facial Essence Oil Market, LAN has ranked No. 1 nationwide in facial essence oil sales for two consecutive years. In 2025 to date, its hero products—including Time Oil, Bubble Oil, Phoenix Oil, and Honey-Oil Mask—have all entered the “100-million-yuan club.” The brand also performed exceptionally well during the first wave of this year’s Double 11 shopping festival, maintaining the No. 1 position in the essence oil category, selling over 400,000 bottles across all channels, and topping the charts on both Tmall and Douyin.
Fabrice Megarbane, President of L’Oréal North Asia Zone and CEO of L’Oréal China, said:
“We are very pleased to embark on this collaboration with LAN. We value not only the brand’s outstanding growth potential but also its brand storytelling rooted in Eastern culture and its continued commitment to beauty and science. This aligns perfectly with L’Oréal’s mission: Create the beauty that moves the world. This investment further highlights the central role of the Chinese market in L’Oréal’s global strategy. We firmly believe that investing in China is investing in the future. Upholding a long-term perspective, we will continue to deepen our presence in China and work with more Chinese brands to shape the future of beauty and meet the expectations of discerning Chinese consumers.”
Ding Xiaolan, founder of LAN, stated:
“In Eastern culture, the orchid is regarded as a noble hermit, symbolizing introspection and the power of quiet growth. Bearing the name of ‘Lan,’ we aspire to embody this spirit—focusing inward, staying grounded, and creating skincare products that awaken the ‘body, mind, and spirit’ of every user. This collaboration with L’Oréal is built on our shared pursuit of beauty and science. With L’Oréal’s deep expertise in global beauty R&D and market expansion, we will accelerate product innovation and globalisation, allowing the energy of Eastern botanicals to reach more corners of the world. LAN will continue to grow—steadily and gracefully—into a long-term brand capable of thriving across cycles.”
