Currently, the technological aspects of the beauty industry are becoming increasingly prominent. The cosmetics industry in China is entering its best era of scientific research, with OSM being one of the pioneers of this research trend.
On August 26th, the opening ceremony of the OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center was grandly held in Hangzhou. This not only signifies a key move for OSM in research and development but also marks its formal entry into the “dual-core” research and development era with the establishment of major research centers in Hangzhou and Deqing.
CHAILEEDO has noticed that this year, OSM has focused on the concept of “skin tone whitening, precise science,” ushering in a new era of precise whitening for the Chinese people. The opening of the OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center will undoubtedly provide strong research and development support for OSM’s deep cultivation in this field.
Through the launch of this research and innovation center, CHAILEEDO has also observed OSM’s consistent dedication to research and development over its 57-year history, demonstrating a gradual but steady commitment.
Focusing on cutting-edge technology and product innovation, OSM achieves another research and development “milestone.”
“The Hangzhou Research and Innovation Center focuses on exploring cutting-edge technology, developing product innovations, and consumer research, while the Deqing Research and Innovation Center is dedicated to the industrial application of technological achievements, striving to transform research outcomes into large-scale production.” According to CHAILEEDO, OSM’s two major research centers have distinct positioning, forming a complementary and synergistic development model.

The establishment of this brand new Research and Innovation Center in the third beauty city of China—Hangzhou—is quite fitting. Currently, leveraging its unique advantages in live-streaming e-commerce, Hangzhou is emerging as a new highland for the beauty industry in China. The increasingly mature cosmetics industry chain and favorable policies in the area can provide OSM with ample industrial resources and a good research and development environment.
CHAILEEDO understands that the opening of the OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center holds strategic significance for OSM, and establishing dual research centers is a major strategic move for OSM’s future development.
At the opening ceremony, Shen Zhirong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSM Holdings Group, emphasized the importance of the new Research and Innovation Center for brand innovation and pearl research, stating, “The OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center demonstrates OSM’s continuous pursuit of pearl research and commitment to providing users with high-quality services.”

It is worth mentioning that in April of this year, OSM hosted the first “Chinese Precise Whitening Summit,” deepening the industry’s research depth on precise whitening through initiatives such as releasing white papers and establishing a precise scientific skincare laboratory. The opening of the OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center undoubtedly holds significant importance for OSM’s new strategic layout.

He introduced the three core missions of the Hangzhou Research and Innovation Center: inheriting pearl culture and craftsmanship spirit, becoming a full-chain scientific research innovation platform, and nurturing innovative talents with international perspectives.

Chairman Xu Guanju of Transfar Group expressed admiration for OSM as a representative of the pearl industry and highly praised OSM’s efforts in promoting innovation and development across the entire pearl industry chain. He hoped that both parties could progress together in the field of technological innovation, jointly promote the development of new productive forces, and wished for a brighter future for the OSM Research and Innovation Center.

Currently, technological innovation has become a crucial factor for beauty companies to maintain a leading edge. The inauguration of the OSM (Hangzhou) Research and Innovation Center will undoubtedly provide OSM with stronger momentum in attracting top scientific research talents, advancing pearl technology development, and more.

Multiple hardcore research achievements unveiled for the first time, Ligfactor Pro 2.0 released
According to CHAILEEDO data, in the first half of 2024, the sales of whitening products in the Chinese cosmetics market reached 54.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.65%, reflecting the strong demand for whitening. Consumer concepts of whitening are subtly evolving, with a growing preference for healthy and refined whitening solutions.
Against this backdrop, OSM is focusing on the innovative concept of “segmented skin whitening, precise science,” aiming to provide consumers with more precise, scientific, safe, and personalized skincare solutions by analyzing consumer skincare habits, skin conditions, living environments, and more.

However, achieving “segmented skin whitening, precise science” is not easy, requiring deep research and development expertise. At the opening ceremony, OSM, with 57 years of dedication to pearl skincare, unveiled multiple research and innovation achievements, showcasing its cutting-edge explorations in whitening and anti-aging in the field of raw materials.
Among them, Yao Guang, a senior scientist at the OSM Research and Innovation Center, presented the latest scientific research achievements of the self-developed raw material Ligfactor Pro, demonstrating OSM’s exploration depth in raw materials.

Yao Guang stated, “Through methods such as multi-peptide proteomics detection, molecular docking simulation, a series of in vitro experiments, and animal trials, it has been precisely confirmed that Ligfactor Pro contains pearl whitening peptides with multi-pathway melanin suppression and melanin transport inhibition effects. Finally, 7 peptide sequences were selected from 58 peptide sequences and multiple ingredient patents were successfully applied for, continuously strengthening the whitening mechanism and efficacy of Ligfactor Pro.”
It is worth noting that OSM also launched Ligfactor Pro 2.0 at this ceremony.

It has been explained that heat stability has always been a major challenge in peptide and protein research. Under high-temperature conditions, peptides and proteins are prone to discoloration and inactivation, affecting the efficacy of products. Through further optimization of processing conditions, OSM has enhanced the stability and efficacy of Ligfactor Pro.
“Ligfactor Pro 2.0 has significantly improved by 85% in terms of tyrosinase activity inhibition. This means that in the future, our products can maintain high activity and effectiveness even in high-temperature environments, providing consumers with a more durable and stable skincare experience,” Yao Guang remarked.
Yao Guang also revealed that building on the existing pearl fermentation liquid, OSM has initiated the research and upgrade project for Pearl Fermentation Liquid 2.0. This project involves detailed optimization of the fermentation process by analyzing potential irritants in the pearl fermentation liquid, significantly reducing the product’s irritability.
Utilizing a low-irritation pearl fermentation liquid derived from polar bacterial strains, as well as collagen protein conjugates that balance wrinkles and repair (an ingredient that can overcome the traditional limitations of collagen penetration), OSM aims to empower its products with even better repair and anti-wrinkle effects in the future.
Besides making significant progress in raw material research, OSM has also made breakthroughs in whitening and anti-aging related target research.
As explained by Xing Ke, a senior scientist in bioinformatics at the OSM Research and Innovation Center, most public omics databases are dispersed, making systematic integration and analysis difficult. OSM has established the “OSM Skin Gene Big Database,” containing nearly 20,000 gene targets, allowing for dynamic information querying of these genes under light-damaged conditions, different ages, and different skin spatial structures. This deep understanding of skin gene targets and access to more precise information have propelled OSM’s precise skincare technology to a higher level. It is based on these foundational studies that OSM continues to deliver groundbreaking innovative technologies and products.

Furthermore, based on the OSM Skin Gene Big Database, OSM has explored the relationship between photodamage and collagen loss, unveiling the “Precise Compound Technology of 5 Skin ECM Proteins Against Photodamage,” empowering future anti-aging line products to help more consumers effectively improve skin aging issues caused by light damage.
The release of multiple hardcore research achievements demonstrates OSM’s strong research and development capabilities. As these achievements are gradually applied to products, they will undoubtedly have a greater empowering effect, propelling OSM towards higher levels of development.
Innovative 3D Exhibition Form, OSM Leads the “Precise Whitening” Trend
CHAILEEDO noticed that for several significant research achievements, OSM innovatively adopted an exhibition format, combining several giant scientific research achievement posters with high-tech curved screen 3D visual effects, providing an immersive exhibition experience for on-site guests.

OSM’s Skin Gene Big Database, Ligfactor Pro process optimization and upgrade, OSM’s new ingredient – self-developed pearl peptides, OSM’s self-developed Antarctic bacteria pearl fermentation liquid… Each of these latest research achievements vividly presented in front of people.
In fact, openly showcasing the latest research achievements not only reflects OSM’s technological confidence but also stems from a rare open mindset. OSM deeply understands that as an important player in Chinese cosmetics, only through technical exchanges and collaborations within the industry, sharing cutting-edge research, joining hands with more industry partners can accelerate the rise of Chinese brands on the international stage, ultimately bringing consumers a more outstanding product experience.
As Shen Zhirong previously stated, “A lifetime devoted to a single pearl, this is also what OSM has always adhered to.” For OSM, the research achievements displayed this time are just a glimpse of the product innovation and research and development over more than half a century, far beyond what OSM has done in research and development.
As early as 1982, OSM established the Pearl Skincare Research Center, dedicated to pearl research, laying a solid foundation for future development, giving OSM a unique pearl gene from the beginning of its development that sets it apart from other brands. In 2014, OSM even established the Pearl Research Institute, thus embarking on its research and development upgrade in the field of pearl skincare.
Today, OSM’s research and development has officially entered the 3.0 era, forming a three-tier research and development system of “developing a generation, reserving a generation, producing a generation,” with core self-developed technologies such as new submicron powder technology, pearl peptide purification technology, pearl fermentation technology, “pearl+” scientific compound technology.
This year, OSM’s pearl whitening concept has “reached new heights,” based on deep user insights and strong research and development capabilities, through the release of white papers and product series, establishing a scientific skincare laboratory, and other measures, making a comprehensive effort in precise scientific whitening.
“As there are no two identical pearls in the world, there are no two identical individuals,” as Shen Zhirong said, OSM, with the cutting-edge concept of “segmented whitening, precise science,” continues to enhance its research and development capabilities, bravely explores the whitening research “no man’s land,” bringing consumers more precise scientific whitening products tailored to Chinese skin types.
