Yesterday, Upper Canada Soap has announced the acquisition of Look Beauty, the Toronto-based skincare company known for its Masque Bar brand and social media-famous Pretty Animalz sheet masks. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Look Beauty’s portfolio includes Masque Bar, a popular face mask line, My iN.gredients, which focuses on ingredient-driven skincare, and Pretty Animalz, recognized for its playful, animal-shaped masks.
The company generates approximately 80 percent of its business from its own brands, with the remaining 20 percent coming from private-label partnerships. All Look Beauty products are manufactured in Korea and distributed in 56 countries, with placements in major retailers such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, CVS, Target, Kroger, Meijer, and Wegmans. While e-commerce, including Amazon, plays a role in its distribution strategy, brick-and-mortar stores remain its strongest sales channel.
Through this acquisition, Upper Canada Soap aims to accelerate Look Beauty’s global expansion and enhance its offerings in response to the increasing demand for high-quality, Korean-made skincare.
“We are excited to welcome Look Beauty to the Upper Canada Soap family. This acquisition allows us to strengthen our position in the beauty space while capitalizing on the rapidly growing K-beauty trend, bringing innovative, clean skincare solutions to today’s savvy consumer,” said Stephen Flatt, CEO of Upper Canada Soap. “We look forward to supporting Look Beauty’s continued growth with the funding and resources needed to help take the company to the next level, further advancing our brands in the global marketplace.”
Look Beauty’s founder and CEO, Allan Lever, will stay on as a consultant for two years following the acquisition. “With Upper Canada’s support and commitment to innovation, we will continue to expand our presence, refine our product offerings, and deepen our commitment to Korean-made skincare,” he said. “As two proud independent and Canadian companies, together, we are poised to lead the way in skincare while embracing the global trends driving the beauty industry today.”
