Recently, bankrupt company Amyris has successfully auctioned off Stripes and Rose Inc. The total value of the transaction was about more than $4.25 million.
Stripes, a menopausal brand established in collaboration with actress Naomi Watts, was sold to Sakana LLC for $500,000. Watts is listed as the managing member of the acquiring company. Launched in 2022, Stripes offers a range of products catering to menopausal women, such as a cooling face mist, thickening scalp serum, hydrating vaginal gel, probiotic supplements, and body oils. The brand aims to normalize conversations around menopause and empower women. The brand is currently available on Amazon, sephora.com, and through direct-to-consumer channels.
On the other hand, Rose Inc, the makeup brand created as a joint venture with supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, will be acquired by AA Investments (HK) Ltd. for $2.5 million.
Additionally, JVN Hair, a hair care brand founded by “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness, has been sold to investment firm Windsong Global for $1.25 million. Windsong Global also secured the bid for Pipette, a clean baby care brand.
Amyris, once a promising biotech company aiming to revolutionize the beauty industry with innovative and sustainable ingredients, later ventured into the celebrity brand sector. However, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August. Since then, it has been actively selling off several of its consumer brands.
Earlier this month, Biossance, considered one of its most successful creations, was acquired by online beauty retailer THG Beauty (formerly known as The Hut Group) for $20 million. Other brands, including 4U by Tia and Menolabs, also found buyers. In October, former Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa bid $350,000 to regain control of his brand, Costa Brazil, which Amyris had initially planned to close.
