Recently, a new class action lawsuit has been filed against Edgewell Personal Care Co. and its affiliates, alleging that the company’s Billie All Day Deodorant causes chemical burns and skin irritation, despite being marketed as safe for sensitive skin. Plaintiffs Tina Marie Barrales and Deadra Powell filed the complaint on April 14 in federal court in Connecticut, accusing Edgewell of violating consumer protection laws, warranty statutes, and common law by misrepresenting the product’s safety.
According to the lawsuit, Edgewell advertised Billie deodorant as free from harsh ingredients like aluminum and baking soda, and suitable for daily use with claims of up to 24-hour skin protection. However, the plaintiffs say they developed chemical burns and rashes after using the product, which they had purchased at Walmart locations in California and Louisiana. They argue that Edgewell was aware of the potential for adverse reactions but failed to disclose the risks or offer remedies to affected consumers.
The lawsuit points to numerous online complaints—ranging from Walmart’s product reviews to social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram—as evidence of a broader issue. The plaintiffs are seeking to represent a nationwide class of Billie deodorant users, along with specific subclasses in California and Louisiana. They are pursuing compensatory damages and a court order requiring Edgewell to add proper warnings to future packaging.
This lawsuit follows a similar legal challenge in 2024 against Procter & Gamble over marketing claims related to its Native deodorant brand.
