COSMAX Korea recently announced the successful development of Untopinol, a skin microbiome solution for problematic skin, which is the world’s first effective skin microbiome solution for problematic skin, according to COSMAX, which plans to utilize the results of this research and development to expand the exploration of the skin microbiome in medical application research and begin commercial applications.
Untopinol is the latest result of COSMAX’s skin microbiome research, which began in 2011. Untopinol is a microbial postbiotic material that maximizes the active ingredients for problematic skin in “Fillerstin™,” an anti-aging skin microbiome developed by COSMAX.
In response to the efficacy of Untopinol, COSMAX conducted a human-applicable clinical trial with 100 patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in collaboration with Yeon Dong-kin, professor at Kyung Hee University College of Medicine, and the KBI Korea Institute for Life Research, and COSMAX stated that 46.2% of the patients showed an improvement in the severity of atopic dermatitis (EASI Score) in the eight-week clinical trial. . In addition, there were meaningful improvements in skin moisture content, transdermal water loss rate, itch symptom scores, skin barrier structure (filament polyprotein), and blood indicators of inflammation.
Based on the results of this research, COSMAX plans to launch a medical device cream (MD Cream) equipped with Untopinol, a cream-based medical device similar to a secondary wound dressing material, which is mainly used for dermatological prescriptions. In addition, COSMAX plans to expand the use of MD creams not only for hospitals but also for general cosmetics with skin barrier restoration functionality.
Yeon Dong-kin, a professor at Kyung Hee University School of Medicine, said, “Untopinol can be a new safe option for patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis through its steroid-free composition.” He also noted that based on the microbiome composition, Untopinol could also be positively recommended for people with sensitive skin.
