Kao Corporation and istyle Inc. have collaboratively formed the RNA Co-creation Consortium, with a focus on Kao’s sebum RNA monitoring technology. This initiative aims to foster business collaboration and promote the long-term growth of the beauty and health sectors.
As part of this initiative, Kao and istyle will lead as directors, overseeing a steering committee. They will be joined by co-creation partners including KOSÉ Corporation, MatsukiyoCocokara & Co., Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, Perfect Corp., and Healthcare Systems Co., Ltd., all renowned companies in their respective industries.
The Consortium’s future vision is to leverage RNA data to develop personalized products and services for consumers. By optimizing supply and demand dynamics, they aim to establish a consumption model that is both sustainable and mindful of people and the environment.
Kao has pioneered the development of sebum RNA monitoring technology, a groundbreaking approach for analyzing RNA extracted from facial sebum collected using oil blotting film. Unlike DNA, which remains constant throughout an individual’s life, RNA levels fluctuate daily due to environmental factors such as physical health, diet, exercise, stress, or exposure to UV rays. This variability makes RNA a valuable indicator of the skin’s current condition. Kao’s research findings suggest that sebum RNA analysis can provide insights into different skin and overall physical conditions. Moreover, it holds promise for early detection of conditions like pediatric atopic dermatitis or Parkinson’s disease.
