French luxury group Kering, parent company of Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen, has fallen victim to a cyber attack that exposed the personal details of potentially millions of customers, according to a BBC report. Kering confirmed the breach in a statement, saying that in June an “unauthorised third party gained temporary access” to its systems and obtained limited client data from some of its Houses.
The compromised information includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses and the total sums spent in stores. Kering emphasized that no financial data, such as credit card or bank account details, was affected. The company said it swiftly notified authorities and customers in accordance with local regulations, though it declined to specify which countries were impacted.
The incident highlights a growing trend of cyber threats targeting luxury brands and retailers. This year alone, Richemont’s Cartier and several LVMH labels have also suffered data breaches. In July, Hong Kong’s privacy watchdog opened an investigation into a leak involving around 419,000 Louis Vuitton customers.
