Recently, Kose has announced that it plans to construct a manufacturing facility powered entirely by hydro-electric energy, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Japan.
It is reported that this state-of-the-art factory will harness locally produced green hydrogen, ensuring its operations remain carbon-neutral by 2040. The project, detailed in a report by Baoxaydung, follows Kose’s signing of a basic agreement with Yamanashi Prefecture. Groundbreaking on the expansive 111,525 square-meter site is set to commence this month.
Kazutoshi Kobayashi, President of KOSÉ, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are fortunate to have found a local hydro energy source that aligns with our carbon neutrality efforts. We appreciate Kajima’s support in realizing construction with CO2-free electricity. We hope this kind of approach will become widespread.” This initiative underscores Kose’s commitment to sustainable practices and sets a precedent for eco-friendly manufacturing in the region.
According to the latest financial results, Kose 2024 Q1 net sales were up 13.8% year-on-year to ¥77.583 billion ($480.5 million), while operating profit was up 35.5% year-on-year to ¥7.902 billion ($48.9 million).
