Yesterday, according to report, Violet Grey is ramping up expansion through acquisitions, according to WWD. The luxury beauty retailer, founded by Cassandra Grey and co-owned with chief executive officer Sherif Guirgis, has already snapped up The Detox Market earlier this year and is said to be nearing a deal to acquire Cos Bar, potentially closing as soon as Friday.
While terms of the transactions remain undisclosed, industry insiders note that the moves mark a significant shift in Violet Grey’s growth strategy. Since reacquiring the business from Farfetch in 2024, Grey and Guirgis have focused on rebuilding the retailer’s unique positioning, opening a second store on Madison Avenue in New York alongside its Los Angeles flagship and shop-in-shop at Hirshleifers in Manhasset, N.Y.
The acquisitions provide access to two distinct consumer segments. Cos Bar, founded in Aspen by Lily Garfield in 1976 and now run by her son Oliver, operates 21 stores nationwide and caters to a high-spending luxury clientele. The Detox Market, founded in 2010 by Romain Gaillard, broadens Violet Grey’s portfolio into “clean” beauty, a segment that has grown steadily and extended internationally, including a Middle Eastern expansion through Chalhoub Group.
Leadership changes also signal Violet Grey’s ambitions. In June, the company appointed Bluemercury alumna Tracy Kline as group president, hinting at a more structured path toward integration and expansion. Still, sources suggest that growth may not lie in rapid store rollouts but rather in strategic acquisitions that enhance Violet Grey’s role as a tastemaker and gatekeeper for prestige beauty.
