Recently, Symrise has inaugurated its first cosmetic ingredient manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, marking a key milestone in the company’s regional growth strategy. The new 1,788-square-meter facility will produce ingredients for Symrise’s Micro Protection, Actives, and Botanicals business units, catering to the growing Indian cosmetics industry.
Chung Sin Wong, vice president of Cosmetic Ingredients for Asia Pacific, and Surya Lukito, director of Cosmetic Ingredients for South Asia and SEAO, played significant roles in the launch. They emphasized that this plant will not only enhance Symrise’s supply chain competencies within India but also accelerate the company’s growth in the broader Asia-Pacific region.
The multifunctional site includes blending capabilities, as well as storage for raw materials and packaging, which will boost operational efficiency. Wong highlighted that the Chennai facility is more than just a manufacturing plant; it serves as a blueprint for sustainable growth and strategic expansion.
In the Indian market, other companies are also making strategic moves. Barentz International recently acquired Anshul Life Sciences Group, while MyMicrobiome signed an exclusive agreement with Vimal LifeSciences to promote microbiome-friendly certification in various sectors, including cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. These developments underscore India’s growing importance in the global cosmetics and specialty chemicals sectors.
