Recently, according to report, Hello Bello, the baby care brand co-founded by actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, is facing legal trouble over claims that its shampoo is falsely advertised as “hypoallergenic.” A class action lawsuit, filed by plaintiff Nitaya McGee on December 5 in a California state court, alleges that Hello Bello’s Premium Baby and Kids Shampoo & Body Wash contains ingredients known to cause allergic reactions—despite being marketed as safe for sensitive skin.
According to the lawsuit, the product includes Coco Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, and Cocamidopropyl Betaine—ingredients that the American Contact Dermatitis Society has named “Allergens of the Year” in the past. These substances are alleged to be hidden allergens that contradict the product’s “hypoallergenic” label, potentially misleading consumers, particularly parents seeking safe options for their children.
McGee claims she purchased the shampoo multiple times under the belief that it was hypoallergenic and would not have done so had she known about the potential allergens. The complaint accuses Hello Bello of violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law, as well as breaching express warranty.
The lawsuit seeks damages, restitution, and a court order preventing Hello Bello from continuing to market the product as hypoallergenic. If certified, the class action could apply to all U.S. consumers who purchased the allegedly mislabeled shampoo.
