Yesterday, according to report, Chanel has shuttered its Atelier Beauté Chanel in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, marking the end of its innovative experiential retail outpost on Wooster Street. Opened in 2019, the Atelier was designed as a digitally enhanced environment offering a wide range of beauty services, from fragrance discovery to makeup and brow styling.
“Since opening its doors in 2019, the Atelier Beauté Chanel has provided an innovative, digitally enhanced environment aimed at elevating our clients’ experiences,” Chanel said in a statement. “We have recently decided to integrate the innovation practice into the existing [fragrance and beauty] operational model. We remain committed to delivering exceptional service and pioneering new ways to meet our clients’ needs.”
According to WWD, The closure comes as Chanel’s beauty business continues to perform steadily, with sales growing by single digits in 2024 to reach an estimated $8.54 billion, driven by strong demand for face makeup despite a flat fragrance performance.
Globally, Chanel opened 26 fragrance and beauty hubs in 2024, including the House of Beauty in Paris, an expansive concept blending retail with beauty treatments and services.
Leadership has also transitioned recently, with Emilie de Tramasure succeeding longtime fragrance and beauty general manager Barbara Menarguez in September 2024.
