Yesterday, Henkel Capital S.A. de C.V. (“Henkel”) of Mexico has announced a voluntary recall of 1,068 units of its Tec Italy Shampoo Totale due to potential contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca, a bacterium that may pose health risks. Exposure to this bacterium can lead to infections in the eyes, nose, and skin, with increased risks for individuals who are immunocompromised.
The affected shampoo was distributed in the United States through distributors in New York and California and may have reached other states. Additionally, the product was sold at the retail level.
The recalled Tec Italy Shampoo Totale comes in a 33.81 fl. oz. (1 L) green plastic bottle, identified by Lot #1G27542266, with a UPC code of 7501438375850. The recall was initiated after microbiological testing by the company confirmed bacterial contamination in certain bottles of this product.
As of now, no injuries or adverse health effects have been reported in connection with the recall. However, consumers who experience symptoms should seek medical attention immediately. Those who have purchased the affected product are advised to stop using it and return it to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
Henkel is conducting this recall in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
