FANCL Group’s Clean Skincare Brand Boscia Closes North American Official Website

Recently, clean skincare brand Boscia from the Japanese FANCL Group announced on its official website that it will officially close on May 31st this year. It is understood that this is the first clean beauty brand to face closure this year.

According to a statement released on the Boscia official website, the brand’s website will be officially closed on May 31st, and all products on the website will be sold at a 45% discount before the closure. “We regret to inform you that we will be closing our website on May 31st. We sincerely thank you for your support over the years. Thank you for being a part of our journey.”

According to public information, Boscia is a brand under FANCL that focuses on overseas markets. It caters to the clean beauty market in Europe and America with the concept of “natural” and “zero additives.” Boscia was once popular in Europe and America. Public information shows that Boscia was founded by Kenji Ikemori in 2002 and is a mid-to-high-end skincare brand created by FANCL for the European and American markets. Therefore, Boscia is also known as the European and American version of FANCL, with product prices ranging from $27.4 to $80.

According to financial reports, Boscia’s peak revenue in the 2020 fiscal year was only $18.29 million, and its performance has been declining since then. In the 2023 fiscal year, its revenue has shrunk by two-thirds compared to before, reaching only $5.1 million. In addition, overall, the sales of FANCL’s cosmetics business have not been ideal. Financial reports show that the sales of FANCL’s cosmetics business reached approximately $493.4 million in the 2020 fiscal year, but it declined to approximately $373.4 million in the 2023 fiscal year.
