Yesterday, Kirsten Kjaer Weis, the visionary behind the pioneering nontoxic makeup brand Kjaer Weis, has announced her departure from the company she founded in 2010. In a Instagram post on Tuesday, she shared, “After careful consideration, I have made the decision to end my association with Kjaer Weis. My heart is filled with gratitude to everybody who has supported the brand and myself over the many years since launching in 2010. Kjaer Weis has been my life’s work and my joy, so far.”
Kjaer Weis did not provide additional comments beyond her social media statement.
Waldencast Ventures, which acquired a majority stake in the brand in 2021, praised her achievements at the time of the acquisition. “Kirsten built the brand on the basis of being a non-compromise brand,” said Michel Brousset, founder and CEO of Waldencast. “She is a makeup artist who wants products that perform, but deliver in a way that is consistent with her beliefs. She speaks with a quiet voice, but one that comes with conviction.”
The brand has grown significantly, reporting a 200 percent year-on-year sales increase leading up to the acquisition. Today, Kjaer Weis products are sold through major retailers such as Nordstrom, Bluemercury, Detox Market, and the brand’s website, offering a range of complexion, lip, and eye makeup products.
Regarding her departure, Waldencast stated, “Kirsten Kjaer Weis has made the decision to part ways with Kjaer Weis. While Waldencast Ventures is an investor in Kjaer Weis, it is a completely separate entity from Waldencast plc, the public company. We wish Kirsten all the best in her future endeavors.”
The move marks a new chapter for Kjaer Weis, a brand that has become synonymous with luxury, sustainability, and high-performance nontoxic beauty. Meanwhile, Waldencast Ventures continues to expand its portfolio, which includes brands such as Whind, Glaze, Sallve, and Manual.co.
