Recently, Kim Kardashian is closing the book on her standalone beauty venture.
The entrepreneur and reality star has officially shut down SKKN by Kim, the skincare and makeup line she launched in 2022. A message posted on the brand’s website confirmed the closure, thanking customers for their support and noting that while SKKN’s operations are ending, its ethos of “innovation, self-care, and skin confidence” will carry on in new forms.
The move follows Kardashian’s broader strategy to streamline her business portfolio under Skims, her shapewear and apparel company now valued at $4 billion. Earlier this year, Skims acquired both Kardashian’s majority stake and Coty’s 20% share in SKKN, with Coty disclosing a $71.1 million loss on the deal.
Despite Kardashian’s star power, SKKN struggled to gain traction. The brand launched with a nine-step skincare system priced at more than $600, drawing criticism—even from figures like Bethenny Frankel—for being out of touch with mainstream consumers. A 2024 makeup relaunch featuring lip liners, powders, and eyeshadow palettes also failed to achieve the cultural momentum of Skims, which has successfully expanded into loungewear, swimwear, menswear, and global retail.
Industry speculation suggests Kardashian isn’t walking away from beauty altogether. A Skims Beauty line is reportedly in development for 2026, potentially uniting fashion and beauty under a single, Kardashian-led empire. With Skims generating over $750 million in revenue by 2023, the pivot may position her for a stronger second act in the beauty market.
