Beauty’s leadership shuffle continues at L’Oréal. Yesterday, the group announced that Alexis Perakis-Valat has been appointed chief executive officer of L’Oréal USA and president of North America, succeeding David Greenberg, who moves into the newly created role of chairman of L’Oréal USA. The appointments will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
Perakis-Valat, currently president of L’Oréal’s Consumer Products Division—the company’s largest unit, which houses L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline New York, Garnier and Nyx Professional Makeup—will be succeeded in that role by Fabrice Megarbane, L’Oréal’s chief global growth officer.
Since taking the helm of Consumer Products in 2016, Perakis-Valat has overseen sales growth from €12 billion to €16 billion, driven by product innovation, a focus on emerging markets and successful launches across categories from hair care to makeup. He also spearheaded sustainability initiatives and advanced L’Oréal’s digital and AI-powered services, including the L’Oréal Paris Beauty Genius virtual assistant.
Greenberg, a 32-year veteran of the company and the first American to lead L’Oréal USA, stepped into the top job in March 2022. Under his leadership, U.S. sales rose from about €8 billion to nearly €12 billion, cementing the region as L’Oréal’s largest global subsidiary. His tenure was marked by record growth fueled by consumer demand for skin care and fragrance, the rise of social media, and an agile response to shifting distribution channels. In his new role as chairman, Greenberg will focus on external relations, public affairs and partnerships with retailers, academia and government, while continuing his work as chairman of the Personal Care Products Council.
Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal Group, praised both executives, stating: “This newly created role of chairman of L’Oréal USA underscores the strategic importance of the U.S. market for our future growth. David’s transformative leadership has been truly exceptional. Alexis’s career is a testament to transformative leadership and strategic acumen—he has fundamentally reshaped our Consumer Products Division, democratizing beauty and accelerating growth worldwide.”
With Greenberg steering external engagement and Perakis-Valat bringing a global growth mindset to the U.S. and North America, L’Oréal is setting the stage for its next chapter in the world’s most competitive beauty market.
