L’Oréal USA has taken the voluntary decision to recall a leave-in conditioner from its Mizani brand due to concerns of contamination.
The recall specifically affects 487 units of the Mizani 25 Miracle Cream Leave-in Conditioner, which comes in 250ml plastic tubes. The reason behind the recall is the potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex, a group of bacteria that can pose a risk to individuals with certain health conditions such as weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases, potentially causing respiratory infections. It is worth noting that these bacteria often exhibit resistance to common antibiotics.
The recall pertains to Lot No. 48U401 and Product No. P1895800, identified by the Recall Number F-0467-2024, as reported by the US Food & Drug Association (FDA). Mizani, known for its professional products catering to wavy, curly, and coily hair, became part of L’Oréal USA’s portfolio following the acquisition of Carson Products in 2000, alongside brands like Dark & Lovely.
It is stated that The Mizani 25 Miracle Cream Leave-in Conditioner, the product subject to the recall, features ingredients like fennel seed oil and coconut oil, providing detangling and hydration properties to the hair.
