Yesterday, Initio Parfums Privés partnered with Dsm-Firmenich to create functional fragrances. A decade after its founding, the niche perfume brand has established a collaboration focused on crafting scents that can directly influence emotions, enhance well-being, boost confidence, and even stir desire. This venture underscores Initio’s dedication to blending science with scent in ways that elicit both conscious and unconscious emotional responses.
The partnership taps into Dsm-Firmenich’s cutting-edge scientific innovations, including advanced olfactory technologies, bespoke olfactive accords, and unique methods to assess the psychological and physiological impact of fragrances. “This is the essence and the foundation of the brand — a serious scientific approach to the powers of scent on the body,” explained Julien Sausset, CEO of Initio.
For Initio, functional fragrance is more than just a trend—it’s the foundation of their brand. By collaborating with Dsm-Firmenich, Initio is pushing the boundaries of what perfume can be. “We’re paving the way for an olfactory revolution,” said Jerry Vittoria, President of Dsm-Firmenich’s fine perfumery division, “where perfume becomes a catalyst for progress and transformation.”
This partnership is already yielding impressive results. Initio is on track to generate an estimated $200 million in retail sales in 2024, marking a 45% increase year-on-year. The brand is sold in around 800 doors globally, with the U.S. serving as its largest market. In addition to its flourishing retail presence, Initio is expanding further, with plans for a boutique in London by the end of the year, and their flagship store in Paris’s prestigious Rue Saint-Honoré.
