A US nationwide class action lawsuit has been filed against Revlon, alleging that its Almay beauty products are falsely marketed as “hypoallergenic.”
The complaint, lodged on August 3 in New York federal court by plaintiff Kathryn Flint, targets Revlon, Revlon Consumer Products, and Almay. Flint claims the company’s labeling violates state and federal consumer protection laws by misleading customers into believing the products are safe for sensitive skin.
According to the filing, Flint purchased multiple Almay items from Walgreens—including Truly Lasting Color Liquid Makeup, Clear Complexion Concealer, and Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm—based on their “hypoallergenic” labeling. She argues that she and her family have experienced irritation, dermatitis, and allergic reactions in the past, and that she specifically bought Almay products to avoid such issues.
The lawsuit alleges Almay’s products actually contain “a shocking array” of known skin sensitizers, irritants, and allergens, including corn starch, salicylic acid, and zinc stearate. Flint contends that this misrepresentation deceives consumers into paying a premium for products marketed as safer than they are.
Flint seeks to represent all U.S. consumers who purchased the allegedly mislabeled Almay products. The claims include breach of express warranty, unjust enrichment, and violations of New York’s General Business Law. She is requesting class certification, damages, fees, costs, and a jury trial.
