Recently, Shiseido announced the acquisition of the renowned skincare brand Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, which is based on dermatological science. According to Japanese media reports, the acquisition price is $450 million.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare was founded in New York, USA, in 2000 by dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross and his wife. The brand offers a range of products, including facial masks, exfoliating gels, and acid-infused lotions, with prices ranging from $9 to $455. Its signature product line is the Alpha Beta® Daily Peel series.
Shiseido stated that the market for “cosmetics developed with the participation or supervision of dermatologists and other experts” is expected to grow significantly worldwide, with greater demand anticipated in the United States. The acquisition of this brand will strengthen Shiseido’s high-end skincare business alongside brands like Shiseido and CPB. Shiseido aims to develop “Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare” into a flagship brand of the group’s high-end skincare portfolio by leveraging its global platform, management resources, and research and development capabilities.
Furthermore, Shiseido mentioned that its Americas business, which has been undergoing structural reforms, has shown strong performance with steady profit growth and a solid foundation. Therefore, the company aims to shift its focus to appropriate regional combinations and reduce reliance on specific regions.
