Yesterday, Shiseido, the renowned Japanese beauty company, is reportedly eyeing OSEA for a potential acquisition, according to WWD. In March, OSEA had enlisted the help of Raymond James to explore various options for the brand.
Sources indicated that several parties are interested in OSEA, with Shiseido showing particular enthusiasm. However, a Shiseido spokeswoman stated, “As a matter of policy, Shiseido does not comment on market rumors or speculation.” OSEA and Raymond James declined to comment on the matter.
Founded in 1996 by mother-daughter duo Jenefer and Melissa Palmer, OSEA is named after the elements ocean, sun, earth, and atmosphere, reflecting the seaweed blend and botanicals used in its products.
The brand’s net sales are estimated to be around $100 million annually, evenly split between retail and online sales. OSEA products are available at major retailers like Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom, as well as smaller specialty stores.
This potential deal follows Shiseido’s acquisition of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare in December. Although the financial details were not disclosed, the acquisition was seen as a strategic move to bolster Shiseido’s core prestige skincare portfolio, which includes its flagship brands Shiseido and Clé de Peau Beauté. Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare was expected to surpass $300 million in retail sales in 2023.
