Recently, The Body Shop, the renowned British cosmetics brand, has officially announced that it ended its operations in Brazil on Instagram.
“Today’s message is a farewell. With hearts full of emotion and gratitude, we are ending a beautiful decade with you here in Brazil.” the company stated. This decision marks the latest step in The Body Shop’s global restructuring. In 2024, the brand closed subsidiaries in major markets, including the United States, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Founded in 1976 in Brighton, England, by Anita and Gordon Roddick, The Body Shop has long been recognized for its commitment to ethical values and sustainability. Over the years, the company changed ownership several times: from L’Oréal in 2006 to Brazil’s Natura in 2017, and then to the Aurelius fund in 2023.
Following the Aurelius acquisition, the parent company declared bankruptcy, leading to a further sale in June 2024 to Auréa Holding, an investment firm led by British entrepreneur Mike Jatania. Under Auréa Holding, The Body Shop underwent a rigorous restructuring process and reportedly returned to profitability.
In Brazil, the brand’s distribution had been managed by Natura under a master franchise agreement that expired in December 2024. The agreement was not renewed, culminating in the closure of operations.
