Recently, it has been reported that the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) is advancing the evaluation and development of new validation testing methods to replace, reduce, and refine animal testing by federal agencies. The “Methods Developer Forum” (MDF), hosted by the NTP, will soon take place, focusing on specific toxicities. This forum is an important platform for showcasing and discussing new approach methodologies (NAMs).
According to the NTP, this webinar will facilitate the exchange of scientific data necessary for the creation and modification of testing methods, thereby minimizing the need for animal testing, unifying agency protocols, and streamlining regulatory decision-making processes.
Currently, several countries have banned animal testing for cosmetics. According to the Humane Society International’s website, a total of 44 countries have enacted laws prohibiting cosmetic animal testing, with the implementation of such bans being predominantly concentrated in Europe and North America. Additionally, ten U.S. states have banned cosmetic animal testing: New York, Virginia, California, Louisiana, New Jersey, Maine, Hawaii, Nevada, Illinois, and Maryland.
