Vegan and gender-free make-up brand Jecca Blac is closing its doors after almost ten years, marking the end of a pioneering presence in inclusive beauty.
The announcement came via Instagram, where the brand revealed that the decision followed the sudden death of a business partner and investor, described as the founder’s “greatest source of support.” The statement noted: “After almost ten years of hard work and dedication, we have made the heartbreaking decision to close Jecca Blac. The sudden passing of my dear business partner and investor, combined with a number of unfortunate events in recent years, has made it clear that continuing the business is no longer sustainable.”
Founded in 2017 as Jecca Makeup before rebranding as Jecca Blac in 2019, the brand was widely recognized for its unisex, vegan formulations and its focus on the transgender community. Founder Jessica Blackler initially offered one-to-one tutorials to trans clients, laying the foundation for a business built on inclusivity and accessibility.
Over the years, Jecca Blac secured distribution with major retailers including Sephora, Superdrug, and Beauty Bay, and sold more than two million units worldwide. “Jecca Blac was built on the belief that beauty should be inclusive for all,” the brand shared in its farewell message.
The closure adds to a growing list of beauty businesses shutting down in 2025, including Bodycare, Youthforia, and Ami Colé. Before its final exit, Jecca Blac is hosting a “closing down event” on its website, giving customers one last chance to purchase its products.
