On November 16, German chemical giant Evonik Industries AG (Evonik) announced that it had signed a licensing agreement with Fuhua Tongda Chemical Co., Ltd. (Fuhua), a major chemical producer in China. Evonik will grant Fuhua the authorization to use its patented technology to construct a new hydrogen peroxide production facility in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. Additionally, the two parties will evaluate collaboration in the production and sales of specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide to meet the growing demand in the Chinese market for related applications.
According to the agreement, Fuhua will utilize Evonik’s authorized technology to build an industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide production facility with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons. The two companies also plan to produce specialty-grade peroxides through processing and purification.
Public information indicates that specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide has various future-oriented application areas. For example, hydrogen peroxide plays a crucial role in the production process of photovoltaic solar cells. It is also used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant, and oxidizer in cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications. Due to the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, it is considered highly environmentally friendly compared to other chemical alternatives.
Lauren Kjeldsen, Head of Evonik’s Smart Materials Business Unit, stated, “This collaboration contributes to Evonik’s mission of ‘peroxides for a better future.’ By combining Evonik’s expertise in peroxides with Fuhua’s local market experience, we can provide solutions to meet the market demand driven by population growth.”
Zhang Hua, Chairman of Fuhua, expressed, “This cooperation with Evonik in the industrial and specialty hydrogen peroxide projects is another significant measure for Fuhua to comprehensively implement technological innovation, achieve transformation and upgrading, and pursue high-quality development. The signing of this agreement signifies a substantial new milestone in the cooperation between the two companies over the years. We believe that the combination of Fuhua’s resource advantages, industrial chain advantages, and local market advantages with Evonik’s top-notch professional technology and safety management will better serve the market and contribute to a better human life.”
