Yesterday, Givaudan Active Beauty has announced the release of Silybidiol, heralded as the first globally compliant alternative to CBD (cannabidiol). This new ingredient is designed to mitigate the harmful effects of urban photo pollution and enhance skin health. Derived from the fruit of the milk thistle through a process known as Green Fractionation, Silybidiol offers a holistic approach to aging by leveraging the “OxInflammation” concept, which links oxidative stress and inflammation.
Romain Reynaud, Givaudan’s R&D director, explains that Silybidiol uniquely activates CB2 cannabinoid receptors, providing the same benefits as CBD. “It reduces inflammation, improving skin tone, and stimulates the production of beta-endorphins, the feel-good peptides that promote overall wellness,” he states. This dual-action mechanism highlights Silybidiol’s effectiveness in promoting healthy, radiant skin while supporting emotional well-being.
In addition to Silybidiol, Givaudan has launched the House of Naturals (HoN), aimed at creating exclusive ingredients for fine fragrances. HoN emphasizes quality, craftsmanship, and sustainable processes, built on four pillars: agronomy, innovation, operations, and perfumers. This initiative is expected to broaden the company’s range of possibilities and enhance its commitment to high standards in fragrance creation.
