Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the heiress of the L’Oréal beauty empire, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first woman in the world with a fortune surpassing $100 billion, as reported by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The value of Bettencourt Meyers’ wealth crossed the $100 billion mark propelled by a surge in L’Oréal S.A. stock, which reached a record high on Thursday. Her net worth reached $100.1 billion, according to Bloomberg. As of the press, her total net value was $100 billion.
At 70 years old, Bettencourt Meyers and her family maintain a stake of approximately 35% in L’Oréal, making them the largest shareholders in the company established by her grandfather in 1909.
Currently, the second-richest woman globally is American heiress Alice Walton, who inherited a significant fortune from the Walmart retail empire. Walton’s wealth amounts to $70 billion.
Although Bettencourt Meyers has reached the $100 billion milestone, making her the 12th wealthiest person worldwide, she remains behind French retail tycoon Bernard Arnault in terms of net worth.
Arnault, the founder of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, holds the position of the second-richest individual globally, surpassed only by Elon Musk, with a fortune of $232 billion.
