Recently, Thai police have arrested two Chinese nationals in Bangkok for allegedly selling counterfeit cosmetics and medicines. The suspects, a 40-year-old man who had obtained Thai citizenship and a 36-year-old woman, were operating under the business name C&C Chuntan Co., Ltd. They had rented two houses in the Wang Thonglang district, which were being used as storage and distribution hubs for illegal products.
On March 26, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, along with senior officers and officials from the Food and Drug Administration, led a raid that resulted in the seizure of 8,270 illegal items. The first location on Lat Phrao 80 Soi 11 contained 4,928 items, including medicines and herbal products, while the second house held an additional 3,342 items, consisting of medicines, herbal products, cosmetics, and food. A search warrant from the Criminal Court facilitated the confiscation of these goods.
Investigators discovered that the suspects had been repackaging cosmetics, snacks, and over-the-counter medicines for sale to Chinese tour guides and wholesale shops. The duo, who had been running their business since August last year, denied any knowledge of the illegality of their products. They admitted to renting the two houses for 26,000 baht (US$765) each.
The suspects now face multiple charges, including selling unregistered and counterfeit medicines, distributing unlicensed herbal products and cosmetics, and selling items with misleading or non-compliant labels. They, along with the seized goods, were handed over to Wang Thonglang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
